At Oldfields, each girl is encouraged to be a leader, and there are endless ways to gain this experience! Some are traditional, like participating in Student Council; some are less in the spotlight, such as being a math tutor or dorm prefect. A new student was so moved by one of our leadership assemblies, that she wrote this e-mail to our own Head of School. We thought it was worth sharing:"There is a spirit about this school and no, I don’t mean a ghost, I mean a feeling. You can’t not feel something when you step into Old House or sit down at morning meeting or even just play your favorite sport on the fields. It’s a peculiar intensity. A kind of faith. Not a religious faith, but a sort of outward faith. It’s like suddenly you know that everyone in the whole entire school supports you, and better yet, they’ve got your back. They believe in you. I have never ever in my whole entire life been in a place where I felt the strongest need to succeed. Wait, not just a need… a want, a desire. I need to be that woman in leadership. I need my daughters to go to this school, to carry on the legacy. I need to be the best that I can be. I need to achieve more than I ever thought possible. I need a challenge. I need to be that everlasting force. I need too, no, I want to succeed."
With this type of inspiration, we know our girls will succeed in their quest to become leaders. To help you along, we conduct Leadership Workshops to teach you the arts of managing groups, setting goals, and running successful meetings….skills you’ll need for this year’s position and for life.
